LOCAL AGENT GROUP I Ref: – TradeSection We are The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. The EU Delegation to Mexico, Mexico City works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully‑fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Mexican government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit. We offer The post of Trade Advisor (Local Agent Job Profile of Trade Affairs Officer, Group I) in the Delegation’s Trade Section. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Trade Section, participating in the follow‑up, monitoring and reporting of trade and economic relations between the EU and Mexico, particularly in the framework of the Free Trade Agreement implementation, reducing market access barriers, and contributing to the deepening and widening of the bilateral relations. Following areas of work, main tasks and duties are currently required: Address market access barriers and follow legislative developments related to agriculture, including organics and GMOs, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) issues; Market access, including tasks related to the Market Access Database and the A2M platform; Intellectual property, in particular geographical indications (in coordination with the IPR lead) Technical Barriers to Trade related to the agriculture and health sector (in coordination with the TBT lead); Oversee contacts with competent authorities and private sector in the policy areas covered; Provide analysis and policy advice in the policy areas covered; Participation in sectoral events in the policy areas covered; Preference utilization rate analysis; Reporting on annual trade and investment flows; Input to regular and ad hoc trade and economic reporting (in coordination with reporting lead; Explain and promote EU trade and economic policies to domestic audiences; Foment working relations with ministries, private sector and professional organizations; Monitor host country position in WTO/DDA and other negotiations; Support, as required, to the organization of meetings/events/missions; Prepare notes, briefings and speeches as necessary for the Head of Section or the Head of delegation in the policy areas covered; Liaise internally with other Delegation sections; Any other (ad hoc) task, relating to the activities of the Section and the Delegation. The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from $ 81,549 MXN Pesos. There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan. The expected start date will be 20 April 2026. Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered) Minimum of university degree in agricultural engineering, economics or law or equivalent or other relevant university diploma; Minimum of 10years of experience in international trade with focus on agricultural matters, SPS and TBT. The professional experience must be acquired after the date on which the qualification allowing access to the post was obtained. Proven working experience in public administration, an international organization or Embassy is an asset. Knowledge of EU trade policy and EU-Mexico trade relations; Excellent knowledge (C2) of Spanish and English (both oral and written); Good command of standard IT tools (eg. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams/Sharepoint) and good knowledge of standard administrative procedures. Good standing as citizen/resident; Medical fitness to carry out the tasks assigned. The process After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose. Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV, practical testing and interviews. 3 best candidates will be invited to the final interview. Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will not supply additional information or discuss the selection procedure.
