We are seeking a TAX Specialist. The Opportunity The TAX Specialist will manage the operational and compliance aspects of VAT and Taxes for the Mexican entity. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with local VAT regulations, supporting VAT process optimization, assisting with audits, and providing guidance on VAT-efficient business practices. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Mexican VAT law, working knowledge of the IMMEX program, and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities Oversee the monthly/annual VAT (IVA) returns and DIOT, ensuring accuracy and reconciliation with accounting records. Manage VAT refund processes and ensure timely recovery with proper documentation. Maintain organized documentation and reconciliations to minimize compliance risk. Monitor changes in VAT and IMMEX regulations and update internal processes. Assist with VAT (IVA/IEPS) certification applications and renewals with external consultants. Oversee IMMEX tax compliance, including VAT exemption eligibility and coordination with internal teams. Manage relationships with tax authorities and advisors; lead SAT audit preparation and responses. Support ERP (e.g., SAP) and external platforms linked to government portals for VAT and IMMEX compliance. Collaborate with internal teams and advisors to ensure compliance and provide tax guidance. TAX Compliance (Domestic and International) Prepare and file monthly and annual VAT (IVA) returns. Apply correct VAT rates for: Domestic sales to Mexican companies (typically 16%); Export sales to foreign companies (0% VAT rate) Ensure proper issuance of CFDI invoices with accurate tax details. Reconcile DIOT reports with VAT returns and accounting records. Validate and recover input VAT from: Local purchases from Mexican suppliers; Import purchases from foreign suppliers Monitor changes in VAT legislation and ensure internal processes reflect updates. Support ERP system configuration and data accuracy related to VAT (e.g., SAP). Customs Compliance Ensure compliance with the IMMEX program for temporary imports. Maintain IVA/IEPS certification for customs operations. Coordinate with customs brokers and logistics teams to ensure proper documentation. Reconcile import/export records with accounting and tax filings. Ensure correct customs treatment for: Domestic purchases (local VAT and documentation); Export shipments (0% VAT and export declarations) Imports from foreign suppliers (customs duties, VAT, and exemptions) Monitor changes in customs regulations and ensure operational alignment. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred. Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CTA) is highly desirable. 5–8 years’ experience in VAT or indirect tax, ideally in manufacturing or multinational settings; advisory experience is a plus. Strong knowledge of Mexican VAT laws, IMMEX requirements, and compliance. Proficient in ERP systems (SAP preferred), SAT portal, and platforms for e-invoicing, VAT filings, and IMMEX compliance. Fluent in Spanish and English (written and verbal). Skills and Competencies Ability to interpret and apply tax regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
