Duty assignments may include the Southwest Border, and relocation may be required. Earn up to $30,000 in recruitment incentives: Newly appointed agents will receive a $20,000 incentive after completing academy training and a 3-year agreement. Key Responsibilities: Conduct thorough investigations and enforce laws Apprehend violators using surveillance and detection technology Collaborate with other agencies to achieve shared goals This career ladder position progresses from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12, allowing for advancement opportunities without reapplying. Qualifications: GL-9: One year of specialized experience at the next lower level, including searching detained persons, vehicles, and surroundings GS-11: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, including leading fraud or contraband investigations Requirements: Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen Residency: Must have lived primarily in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years Age: Must be referred before turning 40 (exceptions for federal or veteran law enforcement) After hiring, agents attend the U.S. Border Patrol Academy for 6 months of instruction in immigration law, firearms, defensive tactics, Spanish, and more.
