Purpose This role is an important member of the Mining & Chemical Intermediates (M&CI) business unit leadership team, and is the primary legal point of contact for F&EM's Latin American operations, with a key focus on managing legal risk and compliance for Orbia's most strategically critical industrial asset: the world's largest fluorspar mine near San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The position provides legal and compliance leadership for all F&EM operations in the region and serves as a key partner and advisor to senior business leaders. Responsibilities This position must identify, prioritize, and manage risks on the basis of a deep understanding of the F&EM business, working with business clients to solve business problems in accordance with the highest standards of ethics and compliance. Serve as a key member of the M&CI business unit leadership team, as well as the Mining Leadership Team. Form productive professional relationships with fellow business leaders and contribute to the business's important decisions. Regularly update F&EM General Counsel, as well as senior leadership. Be able to communicate and explain complex and sensitive topics cogently and clearly. Supervise and manage other attorneys (external and internal) in direct and matrixed relationships on projects for the F&EM business, and manage the legal budget efficiently. Support dispute resolution and litigation strategy in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Advise on transactions, reorganizations, and M&A activity relevant to the F&EM business in Mexico. Proactively understand and engage as necessary and appropriate the various constituencies affecting the operations of the M&CI business unit, including government agencies, community groups, labor organizations and other stakeholders, and stay abreast of legal/political developments affecting operations. Knowledge and Requierements Law Degree and license to practice in Mexico Spanish – Fluent English – Fluent Minimum 12 years of post-qualification legal experience in Mexico, ideally having worked at a law firm and in-house Experience working with and supporting regional/business unit leaders. Ability to form productive professional relationships with internal clients and crucial external relationships of the business. The ability to quickly understand business objectives, identify important risk issues, and manage legal department activity to achieve the business goals. Ability to work well with people at all levels of a business, from the field to the executive suite. Strong background in corporate and commercial law, ideally with mining or industrial sectors Experience working with complex, regulated industrial companies, ideally headquartered in USA Skilled in managing litigation, regulatory matters (environmental and water regulation is helpful), and high-stakes negotiations
