A Brief Summary of This Position: Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Mechanical Designer II position. Mechanical Designer supports new product development in a speed-to-market, telecom industry. The designer reports to the Engineering Supervisor, Mexico, and works in a dynamic team environment. The designer delivers new products from customer requirements through production while considering the project schedule, scope, and cost. The designer also supports Engineering in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies as needed. Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Work on the ongoing development of new and existing product lines with moderate to high design complexity in a lead role. Design 3D parts and assemblies using 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks or Inventor. Draft 2D prints in compliance with Valmont Telecom standards using Inventor or SolidWorks CAD software. Calculate factors like tolerance and critical to function dimensions. Prepare and review a bill of materials (BOM) for all necessary products. Lead design reviews for required department personnel (fabrication, welding, assembly, shipping, etc.). Attend design reviews and provide constructive feedback. Check drawings with high complexity from other designers according to Valmont Telecom standards. Work with product management to create new proposals based on customer requests. Communicate effectively with other departments including configuration management, quality, and procurement. Support Engineering Change Orders with high complexity by working with necessary departments to refine designs and/or manufacturing processes. Maintain and increase technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, and online training courses, and completing relevant certifications. Apply design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) best practices. Ability to adapt to requirements, priorities, and deadlines changes. Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to parts and drawings as needed. Set up FEA and CFD studies and run a simulation with Engineer oversight. Assist Engineering and Project Management staff with day-to-day project functions as needed; including researching product specifications, purchased part descriptions, functionality, and availability. Incorporate structural and thermal analysis considerations into designs by interpreting FEA and CFD reports with Engineer oversight. Identify areas for process improvement within engineering and initiate research into the implications of changes.
