Job Summary We are seeking a seasoned insurance professional with a strong background in real estate asset insurance to lead and manage all aspects of insurance strategy, placement, claims, and ongoing risk mitigation for our global resort portfolio. This role is tailored for a candidate who can bring deep insurance knowledge to the organization, minimizing external dependencies and driving value across our assets. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical insurance experience—preferably within the real estate and hospitality sectors—and will be the go-to expert for all matters related to property and casualty insurance, risk financing structures, and claims strategy. The successful candidate will identify, develop, recommend, and implement appropriate strategies, policies, procedures, and systems to improve Tortuga Resorts risk profile and quantify, mitigate, manage and monitor risk across the organization. . Key Responsibilities Insurance Program Ownership: Develop and maintain insurance programs to protect the company's assets; Lead the design, negotiation, and management of the company’s global insurance portfolio, including property, general liability, construction and renovation risk, business interruption, D&O, and environmental liability. Negotiate insurance premiums and policy terms with brokers and underwriters. Oversee the due diligence, placement, renewal, post-closing (and transition plan if relevant), and optimization of insurance policies across diverse jurisdictions, working directly with brokers, underwriters, legal teams, and asset managers. Maintain active control of the entire insurance lifecycle, including audits, certificates, claims management, loss forecasting, and premium allocation strategies. Establish clear insurance protocols during real estate development, acquisitions, refinancing, and asset disposals, ensuring full coverage at each project stage. Transactional Support & Due Diligence Support M&A and development teams with insurance due diligence for acquisitions and new builds. Provide insurance structuring guidance on joint ventures, lending arrangements, and regulatory disclosures. Standardize diligence processes, checklists, and risk allocation frameworks in line with lender and equity partner expectations. Claims & Loss Management Serve as the internal authority on insurance claims—managing communication with brokers, adjusters, and external counsel. Drive proactive claims strategies to maximize recoveries, reduce downtime, and support property-level teams through post-loss remediation. Implement post-incident reviews to optimize future insurance positioning. Strategic Risk Mitigation Identify trends across properties that may affect insurability or cost; collaborate with Engineering, Legal, and Property Operations to implement mitigation plans. Evaluate alternative risk financing solutions such as captives, parametrical or layered programs, and self-insured retentions. Cross-Functional Leadership Serve as the in-house insurance subject matter expert (SME), guiding the leadership team and asset managers with data-driven insurance and risk advice. Educate internal stakeholders on insurance terminology, including limits, deductibles, exclusions, and emerging risks, particularly those related to natural catastrophes and ESG-linked liabilities. Collaborate with other areas including Legal, Asset Management, Engineering and Property Team to ensure timely and accurate insurance claims processing and settlement. Create and maintain broker relationships, conduct property assessments and training. Work closely with management, employees, and external stakeholders to promote a culture of risk awareness and responsibility. Communicate risk management policies, procedures, and best practices to all employees, and provide training and support as needed. Data Analysis and Reporting Collect and analyze data on risk-related incidents, claims, and losses to identify trends and areas for improvement. Prepare regular reports for senior management and the board of directors on risk management activities, including insurance coverage, risk assessments, and compliance. ESG: Oversee the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) function to ensure that the company's sustainability practices are integrated into its risk management framework. Identify and mitigate risks related to environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance, fostering a holistic approach to long-term value creation and ethical business conduct. Ensure ESG initiatives are designed, documented, and reported in alignment with and in compliance with ESG best practices, including both platform- and hotel-specific ESG initiatives. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field. Professional certification in risk management, such as ARM, CRM, CIRM, CPCU or Certification in a related field, such as Insurance management or risk management. Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial insurance and/or risk management for real estate portfolios, ideally with exposure to hospitality assets. Strong knowledge of insurance principles, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies. Proven experience in insurance placement and claims management in a real estate investment, hotel owner/operator, or brokerage environment. Expertise in real estate construction, development, and asset-level insurance requirements. Strong broker and carrier relationships across international markets. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Nice to Have: Experience with risk management software and systems. Professional certifications (e.g., ARM, CPCU, CRM) .
